Tibber Pulse lets you monitor your electricity consumption in real time through the Tibber app. Installation usually takes just a few minutes, and you can do it yourself without an electrician.
What do I need?
Before getting started, make sure you have:
- A Tibber Pulse compatible with your electricity meter.
- The cable supplied with your Pulse.
- The Tibber app.
- A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- An activated data port on your electricity meter.
The type of connection depends on your electricity meter and Pulse model.
Choosing the right Pulse
Different electricity meters use different connections.
- Pulse P1: Connects to a compatible smart meter's P1 port using an RJ12 cable.
- Pulse HAN: Connects to a compatible meter's HAN port, typically using an RJ45 cable.
- Pulse KM: Designed for compatible Kamstrup OMNIPOWER meters.
- Pulse with an optical reader: Reads data through the optical interface on compatible digital electricity meters.
Check which Pulse model is compatible with your electricity meter before installation.
Activating your electricity meter's data port
Some electricity meters require their data port to be activated before Pulse can read consumption data.
Depending on your meter:
- P1: The port may need to be activated by your grid operator.
- HAN: The port may need to be opened through your grid operator's customer portal or by contacting them.
- Optical interface: You may need a PIN from your metering operator to unlock the interface and enable detailed consumption data.
Tibber cannot activate your meter's data port or provide your meter's PIN.
How do I install Tibber Pulse?
- Open the Tibber app.
- Go to Power-ups → Tibber Pulse.
- Select your Pulse and follow the setup instructions.
- Connect Pulse to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Connect Pulse to your electricity meter when instructed.
Important: The installation sequence depends on your Pulse model. Some models need to be connected to USB power and configured in the app before being connected to the electricity meter.
Once installation is complete and Pulse is receiving meter data, you can follow your electricity consumption in the Tibber app.
Where should I place Tibber Pulse?
Pulse needs a stable Wi-Fi connection to send your consumption data to the app.
For the best connection:
- Keep Pulse within range of your Wi-Fi network.
- If your meter is inside a metal cabinet, position Pulse outside the cabinet where possible.
- Use a suitable longer cable if supported by your Pulse model.
- Keep Pulse protected from moisture.
Some electricity meters don't provide enough power through their data port. In these cases, Pulse may need a continuous external USB power supply.
My Pulse won't turn on
If the LED on your Pulse doesn't light up:
- Check that the cable is connected correctly.
- Make sure your meter's data port is activated, if required.
- If your Pulse model supports external USB power, try connecting it to a suitable USB power source.
If Pulse works with USB power but not when connected only to your electricity meter, the meter may not be supplying enough power.
I can't connect Pulse to Wi-Fi
Tibber Pulse requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and doesn't support 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
If the connection fails:
- Make sure your phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz network.
- Check that the Wi-Fi signal is strong enough near your electricity meter.
- Temporarily disable VPNs or other services that may interfere with setup.
- Restart the installation process in the Tibber app.
Installation still isn't working
Check that your Pulse is compatible with your electricity meter, the required data port is activated and all cables are connected correctly.
If you're still having trouble, contact Support below or via the chat in the app.
Please include:
- Your electricity meter's brand and model.
