Connecting your GoodWe inverter to Tibber
Most integrations can be connected directly through Power-ups in the Tibber app. Simply select the device you want to connect and follow the instructions.
Some integrations require a few extra steps, such as additional hardware or specific settings. For GoodWe, you'll need a Tibber Bridge, a compatible dongle and Modbus TCP enabled on your inverter.
Once connected, Tibber can automatically control your GoodWe battery and optimize charging based on electricity prices.
What do I need?
- A GoodWe hybrid inverter with a connected battery, such as GW10KN-ET or GW12K-ETA-G20.
- A compatible WiFi/LAN Kit 2.0 or newer. Check the serial number on your dongle before starting. It must begin with 7200 or 7210.
- A Tibber Bridge installed in your home.
- Your inverter and Tibber Bridge connected to the same local network.
If you don't have a compatible dongle, you can purchase one through the Tibber Store of your market.
Connecting an ESA system
- Enable Modbus TCP in the GoodWe SEMS+ app. Go to Settings → Communication Settings → WLAN/LAN → Modbus TCP.
- Check your network. Your inverter and Tibber Bridge must be connected to the same local network, not a guest network or separate VLAN.
- Connect your inverter. Open the Tibber app, go to Power-ups and select your GoodWe inverter.
Connecting an ET/ET+ system
Before you start
You'll need to complete the first three steps before connecting your devices.
Please note: Step 2 may take a few days, as GoodWe needs to perform the firmware update for you.
- Check your dongle. Only version 2.0 or newer, such as 2.0 CS, is supported. If you have an older version, you'll need to upgrade it. You can purchase a compatible dongle through the Tibber Store of your market.
-
Contact GoodWe Support. Ask them to update the firmware on both your inverter and dongle, and enable Modbus TCP.
You can contact GoodWe through their support request form.
Here's an example message you can send:
"Hello, could you please make sure my inverter and dongle firmware are up to date and enable support for Tibber's VPP?"
- Check that Modbus TCP is enabled in the GoodWe SEMS+ app.
What happens next?
Once connected, your inverter will appear under Power-ups in the Tibber app, and Tibber can start controlling your battery.
My inverter isn't connecting
If your inverter doesn't appear in the Tibber app, check that:
- Modbus TCP is enabled.
- Your inverter and Tibber Bridge are connected to the same local network.
- Your dongle is compatible and has the required firmware.
- GoodWe has completed any necessary firmware updates and enabled VPP support.
