With Grid Rewards, you help keep the electricity grid balanced. In return, you receive a reward when your car participates in a Grid Rewards session.
During a session, Tibber may temporarily adjust your car's charging. Your charging settings and departure time are taken into account.
How does Grid Rewards work?
Electricity production and consumption need to stay balanced. Changes in solar and wind production or electricity demand can temporarily disrupt this balance.
Grid Rewards helps restore the balance by temporarily starting, increasing or pausing your car's charging.
You receive a reward for this, on top of the savings you make with Smart Charging.
How does the compensation work?
Grid Rewards takes your original Smart Charging schedule into account. If charging is moved to a more expensive time, you receive compensation for the price difference.
You also receive an additional Grid Rewards reward for participating.
This means a completed charging session costs less overall than it would with Smart Charging alone.
The amount you earn depends on electricity market conditions and may vary between sessions.
What do I need?
To participate in Grid Rewards, you need:
- A Tibber energy contract.
- A supported electric car.
- Your car connected to the Tibber app.
- Smart Charging enabled.
Grid Rewards is available for a limited number of car brands and models.
Enabling Grid Rewards
If your car is eligible, you can enable Grid Rewards in the Tibber app.
Follow the instructions in the app to sign up.
Getting more from Grid Rewards
The more often your car is connected and available for charging, the more opportunities it has to participate in Grid Rewards.
We recommend:
- Plugging in your car when you're at home.
- Setting a realistic departure time.
- Keeping Smart Charging enabled.
This helps Tibber know when your car needs to be ready and plan charging as cost-effectively as possible.
Disabling Grid Rewards
Grid Rewards is linked to Smart Charging and can't be disabled separately.
If you no longer want to participate, you'll need to turn off Smart Charging entirely. Your car will then no longer automatically charge during the cheapest hours.
If you think Grid Rewards isn't working correctly or you're concerned about additional charging costs, contact Support first. We can often explain what's happening or suggest a solution without you having to disable Smart Charging.
Can I skip a Grid Rewards session?
Yes. You can select Charge Now at any time if you want to charge immediately instead of following the scheduled session.
Keep in mind that interrupting a Grid Rewards session may affect your price compensation.
