Load Balancing helps prevent your home's main fuse from becoming overloaded while charging your electric car. Tibber Pulse monitors your electricity consumption, and Tibber automatically adjusts the charging power when needed.
How does Load Balancing work?
Tibber Pulse continuously measures your home's electricity consumption on each phase.
When your electricity consumption approaches the limit of your main fuse, for example when several appliances are running at the same time, Tibber temporarily reduces your car's charging power.
Once more capacity becomes available, the charging power automatically increases again.
This helps prevent your main fuse from tripping when your home uses a lot of electricity.
What do I need?
To use Load Balancing, you'll need:
- A Tibber Pulse connected to your electricity meter.
- A compatible EV charger that supports Load Balancing through Tibber and is connected to the Tibber app.
You can enable or disable Load Balancing through the Pulse icon on the home screen of the Tibber app.
Is my EV charger compatible?
Not every EV charger supports Load Balancing through Tibber.
To check compatibility, explore the supported chargers under Power-ups in the Tibber app.
What can I expect?
Load Balancing doesn't respond instantly. A short delay is normal because Tibber Pulse first measures your electricity consumption before the charger adjusts its charging power.
During sudden, brief spikes in electricity consumption, you may still receive an overload warning.
Load Balancing reduces the risk of your main fuse tripping, but it cannot prevent every overload.
I'm already using another Load Balancer
Avoid running multiple Load Balancing systems at the same time.
Two systems may interfere with each other, preventing your charging power from being adjusted correctly.
If you're already using another Load Balancer, disable it or turn off Tibber's Load Balancing in the app.
I'm still receiving overload warnings
First, check whether large electricity-consuming appliances are distributed as evenly as possible across your home's electrical phases.
If you continue receiving warnings despite a balanced load, contact Support below or via the chat in the app.
Let us know which phase is triggering the warning so we can help you investigate.
Important: If changes to your electrical installation are needed, always use a qualified electrician.
